Towering infer-no!

With AB-InBev having seen volumes decline in western Europe to the order of 5.6 percent (January – September 2009), CEO Carlos Brito will have told his marshals to bring out the next cost reduction plan.

It’s still an unconfirmed rumour – perhaps not spoil people’s Christmas celebrations – but one out of three AB-InBev’s European employees could find themselves on the firing line.

Germany would be affected severely. Here AB-InBev employs more than 3000 people.

The cost reduction plan is said to have been named “Towering”.

Good grief, is there no one around in Leuven any longer with some sort of cultural memory which dates back to 1974 when Towering Inferno (a real Hollywood blockbuster about a fire in a skyscraper) was a world-wide box office hit, to tell these keen and eager cost-cutters that “Towering” is a definite no-no?
