Sugar is the new alcohol

The Welsh Assembly (the Welsh parliament), which has the power to make legislation in Wales, said in a statement: “Hospitals are visited by a very broad cross-section of society and, as such, the whole hospital environment should reflect the importance of healthy living.”

The move to ban sweetened hot drinks comes after schools were targeted in a health drive by the Welsh Assembly.

Its members said children should not be allowed sugar in their tea at break time as part of the Appetite for Life Action Plan to tackle childhood obesity and poor health.

Schools choosing to follow the guidelines will have no salt on tables, no confectionery on sale and no butter.

We wonder what’s next?
