Budejovicky Budvar reports record output in 2013
Given that AB-InBev in 2013 sold about 42 million hl of Budweiser, it sounds a bit preposterous that the Czech state-owned brewery Budejovicky Budvar, which has been fighting a long legal battle with Anheuser-Busch and now AB-InBev over the use of the “Budweiser” brand, boasted in early January 2014 that its overall output and exports reached a new high in 2013.
Budvar says exports rose 16.1 percent to reach 763,000 hl of beer. Though Budvar brags it exported to 65 countries last year – seven more than in the previous year – most of the volume probably went straight into neighbouring Germany as it did in 2012. By comparison AB-Inbev’s Budweiser is sold in 86 markets.
Budvar’s overall output reached 1.4 million hl beer, 6.2 percent up from 2012.
The company will release its 2013 financials in April.
