Drink beer and save the climate
When it comes to politicising beer, BrewDog does not miss a beat. In time for the UN Climate Change Conference (6-17 November 2017) in the German city of Bonn, Scottish brewer BrewDog launched its latest protest beer, Make Earth Great Again – a beer it hopes will “shake the world by the shoulders” and remind leaders to prioritise climate change issues.
First compelled to brew the beer by America’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Accord, BrewDog’s limited release beer includes water sourced from melting Arctic ice caps, and ingredients including endangered Arctic cloudberries. The saison-style beer is fermented at a higher temperature, which is an appropriate nod at the effects of global warming.
The label is reminiscent of comic strips and shows Mr Trump as a weaponised robot. He appears to be taking fire at a polar bear, an animal often used in campaigns against climate change.
As a powerful reminder of the inspiration for the beer and to underline the impacts of global warming, BrewDog’s Make Earth Great Again beer will be dispensed from a bespoke beer font, built inside a life-size polar bear replica.
BrewDog has sent a case of its beer to The White House, in the hope of turning the US President’s attention back to the issue. This may be a pious hope as the US President is a renowned teetotaller.
